I find this article and sentiment interesting.Growing up it was engrained into me not to take sick time and that you needed to call out 2 weeks in advance of your own death. You were only too sick to work if you were non-stop throwing up everywhere or in the hospital. However, I see the use in staying home when sick with something contagious (PLEASE stay home to avoid spreading germs!) or even when just feeling generally unwell and in need of rest. Recently, my young son mentioned wanting to take sick leave even though he was not sick or going to a doctor's appointment. He simply wanted time off. We had a conversation about this, and it provided a different perspective that I disagree with. Nevertheless, it was interesting to hear his point of view. We all have responsibilities, tasks, meetings, and deliverables to create. It becomes challenging when we are short-staffed, so I understand the management's sentiment in this regard. However, there are times when individuals need a day off to rest in order to prevent a major illness. What are your thoughts? Are your teams calling out a lot? Do you feel they are "gaming" the system somehow? How do you handle sick days?#leadership #sickdays #wellnesshttps://buff.ly/4bgaLab

As for going to work with a minor illness, it is essential to keep your distance from coworkers and wash your hands frequently to avoid the spread of germs. If you truly feel ill, whether or not you’ve been diagnosed with something serious, stay home and rest. That is why many employers provide sick days.#sick #work #stayhome #employee #coworker #timeoff #protection #washhands #facemask

Statistically speaking, more workers have taken today - the first Monday of February - off work sick than any other day of the year. It's why the day has become known as National Sickie Day.Colds and flus are often cited as reasons for taking the day off. But often this isn't the whole truth. In many cases, the real story is mental fatigue. But some workers fear asking their bosses for a mental health-related sick day, and instead feel obliged to blag about having a physical illness instead. It's ok to take a day off for mental health reasons, and it's ok to be honest and open with your employers about it.Find out more about National Sickie Day, and why it's become the most popular day for sick leave, below ⬇️https://lnkd.in/dbKSzkha#NationalSickieDay #EmployeeWellbeing #Wellbeing

Today is apparently "National Sickie Day!"For those who woke up feeling like going to work would be a bad idea, you’re not alone. This is the day that many people call off, pull a sickie, call in sick or play hooky because they simply don’t want the weekend to end and they don’t want to go to work – even if they aren’t actually sick!History of National Sickie DayAs the dark winter blahs continue for what seems like endless days throughout the season, people tend to get sick and tired of going to work. In fact, the first Monday of February is statistically the day that more workers in the UK will call in sick than any other day, which is why it has been established as National Sickie Day!Click the link below for more information and tips about mental and physical wellbeing and the right way to manage sick days https://lnkd.in/eQn__RD8#nationalsickiedday #callinsick #mentalhealthawareness #physicalhealth #employability #workplacewellness

How many times have you felt guilty for taking time off? There's a reason why your workplace is supposed to offer you paid leaves and no, those are not only meant for illnesses, doctor's appointments and family emergencies. You might wake up today and feel that the world is weighing you down and you need a break. There's nothing wrong with that. You should be able to take a break today or any day like this. That's why you have leaves in your account. One of the biggest signs of a toxic workplace is that your manager or boss makes you feel guilty for taking this break. Asking for too much explanation, making you show proofs like doctor's prescriptions, making you feel smaller for this leave later, or telling you that giving a leave was a "favour". And unfortunately, this happens a lot, especially when your manager or boss is fond of micromanaging. But whatever they tell you, you deserve a break. You deserve to take a leave. Don't let a bad leader tell you otherwise. #fridaythoughts #randomthoughts #workplacelearning #takeabreak #worklifebalance

It's cold in the Midwest and colds, flu, and COVID are on the rise. That means getting sick. I would know. I’m currently voiceless due to the worst cold in the world while stuck in a polar vortex. At least Bentley is a great nurse. Did you know that in 2023, 89% of Americans polled worked through an illness instead of taking sick days? And half of those 89% acknowledged in the poll that they shouldn’t have worked through it. 64% of workers experience negative emotions when requesting sick time, including stress, anxiety, guilt, or fear. If you’re at a job that makes you feel guilty for requesting sick times, denies your sick time, or makes you so anxious you don’t even ask, it’s time for a change. Let's prioritize our health and wellbeing.Don't let your job make you feel like you have to work through illness. You deserve better. If you're looking for a workplace that values your health, reach out to Corinne.Huntley@lhh.com.Article: https://lnkd.in/gtAyNkA6 #employeebenefits #employeesafety #healthandwellness #sickleave #sicktime #workenvironment #worklifebalance #jobs #jobseekers #attorney #attorneylife #lawyerlife

Interesting article by the BBC about the rise of sick days. It’s the highest for a decade. Minor illnesses were the main reason for short term absence, followed by MSK injuries and mental health. For long term absence the main cause was mental health, followed by MSK injuries and then illnesses such as cancer and stroke. Public sector sick days were almost double those in the private sector. Really interesting given the increased focus by many employers on wellbeing. Is it that this isn’t working or would the position have been even worse if there hadn’t been this support? Do reach out if you are an employer that needs support with this. #welbeing #employerofthefuture
