The Top Of The Line Tacoma Is The $63,900 TRD Pro

One of the most appealing aspects of the Tacoma is its starting price. Despite its modernized overhaul, it's still cheaper than its rival over at Ford. However, if you’re looking for the most capable Tacoma possible, then you’re going to have to spend over double the price of the entry-level truck.

Trims

SR

$31,500

SR5

$36,200

TRD PreRunner

$38,100

TRD Sport

TRD Off-Road

Limited

$52,100

Trailhunter

$62,900

TRD Pro

$63,900

The Toyota Tacoma trim lineup is stacked, with eight different models to choose from. TRD has also gotten involved with four models, making this one of the most dedicated off-road trucks that you can buy in 2024. While most people would find the SR5 to be the best value, if you’re looking for a factory-built off-roader then you’re going to want to climb the trim ladder a bit.

The most capable of all the Tacoma’s is the TRD Pro. Not only does it feature a plethora of off-road equipment, but it also houses an impressively powerful, yet efficient hybrid powertrain. Just like most of the Tacoma lineup, the TRD Pro is a double cab with a five-foot truck bed. If you include delivery, processing, and handling fees, our current total on our Tacoma build sits at $65,395.

Standard Equipment

We’ll go into the specifics of the mechanical performance of the Tacoma TRD Pro a little further down, but know that it is much more capable than the average model. As well as this, it gets the most powerful version of the Tacoma’s powertrain, the hybrid iForce MAX. It also rides on 18-inch matte black wheels.

In terms of interior technology, the Tacoma features a massive 14-inch infotainment screen alongside a 12.3-inch digital gauge display. It houses a 10-speaker premium JBL sound system, with a center speaker that doubles as a portable Bluetooth speaker. A well-fitted interior also includes IsoDynamic Performance Front Seats which uses an air-over-oil shock absorber system that dampens body movement.

A 326 Horsepower Hybrid Powertrain Motivates The 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro

The Toyota Tacoma comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine in every model. However, power outputs vary depending on which model you get. The TRD Pro gets the most powerful iteration of the powertrain, electrifying the higher output version of the engine.

Transmission

8-Speed Automatic

Horsepower

326 HP

Torque

While most models of the Tacoma can choose between the hybrid and non-hybrid powertrains, the TRD Pro comes exclusively with the hybrid iForce MAX powertrain. Toyota places an electric motor between the engine and the transmission, boosting horsepower and torque by a ton. The torque alone should be enough to widen the eyes of any off-road enthusiast. CarBuzz goes into detail on why they think this is a big upgrade over the outgoing V-6.

Matched with the powertrain is an eight-speed automatic transmission. Other models have the option of a six-speed manual, which might be more attractive to some enthusiasts, but the eight-speed is smooth and quick.

Off-Road Equipment

The reason that just about anyone would choose to go with the TRD Pro is its off-roading equipment. It sits on 33-inch Goodyear Territory R/T tires and features a high-clearance front bumper. It also has RIGID LED lights for improved visibility on the trails.

The most impressive feature of the TRD Pro, however, is its unique suspension technology. TRD-tuned FOX® * QS3 Internal Bypass shocks feature on this incredible off-road pickup, with the Quick Switch tech allowing you to adjust dampening on the fly. Impressive underbody protection and a standard disconnecting front anti-roll bar round off the performance of this impressive machine.

There Aren’t A Ton Of Optional Packages Or Color Variants

Fully Loaded Toyota Tacoma: Unveiling the Ultimate Pickup Costs (6)

Moving back through the configurator, we explored some of the optional extras that Toyota offers on their Tacoma TRD Pro to extend some of its capability. However, due to the fact that the Tacoma is supposed to be a turn-key off-roader, packages, and customization is somewhat limited.

Optional Packages

The TRD Pro is a fully kitted truck, meant to be driven off the lot and straight into adventure. That means that Toyota includes practically all of its equipment as standard. While there are plenty of accessories to choose from, the only optional package offered in the configurator is a mudguard package which costs an additional $60. We’d definitely suggest equipping your Tacoma with this package to protect your pickup’s underbody components.

Colors

While it doesn’t affect performance, customizing your truck to make it more personal to you is something we’d consider essential. You have a choice between four exterior color combinations; a solid black, Terra with a black roof, Ice Cap white with a black roof, or Underground gray with a black roof. The solid black can be had at no additional cost, but two-tone paint jobs will cost $500 more.

By default, the interior is trimmed with solid black SofTex material. You can, however, change this to red at no additional cost. You can’t, however, select the red interior if you have gone with the Terra exterior color.

If you have equipped a two-tone paint job along with the mudguard package, your total should now sit at $65,955.

You Can Choose From A Bevy Of Accessories In Toyota’s Configurator

If you’re already thinking of all the accessories that you’ll need to buy to pop into your Tacoma TRD Pro to get it ready for a weekend on the trails, then Toyota has you covered. Not only do they offer a ton of their own equipment, but they have partnered with a number of other companies to offer an impressive list of extras.

Utility And Storage

Storage is an important factor in any pickup truck. Toyota has a number of accessories to help you get the most out of your storage. Examples of some of these accessories are bed-dividers and bed extenders, costing $420 and $485 respectively. Toyota also offers a ton of accessories by Dometic, Pelican, and Yakima, such as storage cases, coolers, and a pressurized water system.

Toyota also offers a bunch of trailering equipment, such as a trailer ball for $33. Other utility equipment includes extra bed cleats for $30 and alloy wheel locks for $80. ARB, CarMate, Kammok, and RAM offer other utility equipment, such as repair kits and solar panels. You can also add a Mole panel heavy-duty bed rack for a whopping $3,395.

Protection And Styling

With a truck like the Tacoma TRD Pro, you’ll be traveling into treacherous terrain. You want to be sure that your truck is sufficiently protected from the elements. Toyota offers paint protection and a tonneau cover for $964 and $1,350 respectively. There are plenty of other accessories that offer protection, such as canvas covers from Kammok.

If you want to accentuate the style of your Tacoma, you can equip it with tailgate inserts, which will set you back $89. This emphasizes the Tacoma stamp on the back of your truck in a gun metal gray, bright chrome, or flat black.

Grand Total

We're aware that nobody is going to buy every single accessory offered on the Tacoma. We just think it's important to highlight the scale of options that you have. In total, there are 117 additional accessories that you can tack on to your TRD Pro purchase. Before equipping all the accessories, the Tacoma's total was $65,955. After all the accessories, a fully-equipped Tacoma TRD Pro can cost up to $112,338. That means there are over $46,000 worth of accessories to choose from. Without any accessories, though, the Tacoma TRD Pro is a beast and is arguably better than both of its main rivals, the Chevrolet ZR2 Bison and the Ranger Raptor.
