When our clients ask how we can play a role in shaping people-centric urban spaces, we start with a few tough questions. For example: have you had a conversation with young people or observed some daily practices in the space?Read more of our advice at the link in our bio and share yours too! https://lnkd.in/d-b_9TUi

I'm looking forward to joining former Mayor of Bogota and now global consultant Enrique Penalosa and Member of the Norwegian Parliament, Lan Marie Nguyen Berg, at Urban Future. 2024 in #Rotterdam to share some of Our Future Cities failures. In a world where we really only share, preach, and talk about successes and wins, this is an opportunity to show some vulnerability and shine a spotlight on when things went wrong during the Cities F*ckUp Show moderated by Dejan Stojanovichttps://lnkd.in/gNs58eWv #urbanism #cities #rottterdam #urban #failure #UrbanFuture2024

It is easy to judge a city on first or second glance, but my visit to Doha with a former colleague revealed the delight, whimsy, and simple joy of seeing families out at night, safe in well-lit, vibrant public spaces. I was surprised to see many bicycles parked outside a small mosque, benches being used well into the evening, and wide promenades accessible to people of all abilities.A reminder to always have a second look, and take some time to get beneath the surface and challenge our own perceptions.

Why not learn from the solutions (and mistakes) of other projects and processes across African contexts. In just a few weeks, the RISE Africa Action Festival offers a rich programme addressing issues from global inequities and urban food systems to circular economies and innovative ecotourism. These sessions provide a unique opportunity to explore sustainable urban solutions that align with your interests and expertise. https://lnkd.in/diGpDvUp

I am aiming this at the Foreshore-Freeway-completion advocates. Remember : loosening your belt doesn’t assist with obesity. That and the multitudes of traffic modeling and simulation showing that completing the freeways moves traffic to the Green Point circle - creating new risks.
