The Best Markets in Munich – Open Year Round
Viktualienmarkt
Viktualienmarkt 3, 80331
Located right in the heart of the old town near Marienplatz, Viktualienmarkt is one of the largest and most popular markets in Munich. It’s a foodie’s paradise where you can sample or purchase fresh produce, gourmet cuisine, and, most importantly, local Bavarian specialties. It’s also a popular place for lunch or an after-work drink, as there are sausage stands, beer gardens, champagne bars, and to-go meals that will leave you feeling full and satisfied.
While it can feel crowded and touristy, it’s still definitely one of the most diverse markets in Munich. But with such a fun and vibrant atmosphere, it’s a must-see for anyone visiting the city.

Elisabethmarkt

Elisabethmarkt is an adorable market in the bustling neighborhood of Schwabing. Although it’s currently undergoing a major renovation, you can still find shops, stands, and cafes peddling their goods to locals. Fruit and veggie stands, cheesemongers, butchers – Elisabethmarkt is an excellent stop if you want high-quality local foods.
After picking up some goods, make sure to stop by the Wintergarten, a laid-back Bavarian restaurant with a charming outdoor beer garden.

Wiener Markt (Markt am Wiener Platz)

Although it’s one of the smallest markets in Munich, Wiener Markt is still considered to be one of the prettiest outdoor plazas in the city. Mostly frequented by locals, this hidden gem in Haidhausen sells fresh produce, meats, cheeses, flowers, and wine. On a warm day, you’ll see people gathering in the square for an aperitif, while more serious drinkers can head to the beer garden at the Wiener Platz Hofbräukelle (one of the largest beer gardens in the city).

The Best Markets in Munich – Weekly
Josephsplatz

Every Tuesday, some of the best local producers around Bavaria come to set up stalls in Josephsplatz under the shadow of the St. Joseph church. The vibe is more street festival than a farmer’s market, which gives visitors the chance to experience an authentic side of Munich and Bavarian culture. Fresh fish, noodles, fruits, sausages, flowers, and baked goods are just a few yummy treats you can buy.

St. Benno Kirche

Located right outside the border of Maxvorstadt, the market at St. Benno Church is a small but welcoming place to pick up delectable foods and goods. Highlights include the locally produced honey and mead, as well as the freshly baked cakes and tarts.

Mariahilfplatz

If you’re looking for an authentic farmer’s market, head to Mariahilfplatz. There are roughly 20 stalls that are set up here every Wednesday. In addition to fruit and veg stands, you’ll find exquisite regional products like locally produced schnapps, sausages, jams, and goat milk products.
It’s also the same place where the Auer Dult folks festival takes place three times a year.

St.-Anna-Platz

St.-Anna-Platz is truly one of the cutest local farmer’s markets in Munich. While there are only a handful of stalls (~15), the atmosphere of being surrounded by the grandiose buildings of Lehel makes this an excellent market for those near the city center. You’ll find many of the same producers that you do in the other weekly farmer’s markets, although you’ll also be close to numerous restaurants and bars to grab an after-market drink or meal.

Pinakothek der Moderne

On Saturday morning, head down to the museum district of Munich for a fun and festive farmer’s market. You’ll find several booths and stalls set up on the grassy lawns of Pinakothek der Moderne. Grab some food or pack a picnic to enjoy the sun, as this is a popular hang-out spot for students on the weekends.

The Best Markets in Munich – Flea Markets
Midnightbazar

Werksviertel Mitte: Atellierstrasse 4, 81671
The Midnightbazar isn’t just the best night market – it’s also one of the best all-around flea markets in Munich. You’ll find antique furniture, vintage clothing, and tons of unique knick-knacks you can’t get anywhere else. There are generally more than 100 stalls, so you can spend an entire evening here if you’d like. Plus, there’s live music and food and drinks, which makes it a great event to see (even if you’re not big into shopping).
The market rotates between two locations in the city – Backstage and Werksviertel Mitte. And unlike other flea markets, there is a small fee to enter (€ 4). However, it’s a fair price considering it feels more like a party rather than a swapmeet!

Olympiapark
Parkharfe at the Olympic Stadium
The flea market in Olympiapark is quickly becoming one of the most popular markets in Munich – and for a good reason! With over 450 vendors every single weekend, it’s an ideal place for shopaholics to find something special. Clothes, books, antiques, decor, sports equipment, jewelry – you name it, this flea market probably has it.

Riesenflohmarkt auf der Theresienwiese

If you’re in Munich in the Spring, visiting the Riesenflohmarkt is a must. Located in Theresienwiese (where Oktoberfest takes place), this “Giant Flea Market” is one of the largest of its kind in all of Bavaria. There are over 1,600 exhibitors, so be prepared for a full afternoon of rummaging through second-hand treasures! It’s one day only, so don’t miss out!

Munich-Riem

Covering over 75,000 square meters, the flea market in Munich-Riem is considered to be the largest open-aired market in Bavaria. Although it’s a bit outside the city (30 minutes by subway from Hauptbahnhof), it’s filled with private and professional vendors. It’s completely free to visit, and even has its own parking lot (€ 3) if you prefer to drive.

Hofflohmärkte
Besides traditional flea markets, Munich also has some great yard sales that are worth checking out (it’s also a fun way to explore the many different neighborhoods in the city). Resides will set up small tables outside their homes or apartment buildings to sell their second-hand wares.
